Mastering English, especially speaking, can be a challenging journey, but with the right tools and resources, it can become achievable and maybe even fun!

Whether you're a non-native speaker or a native speaker, there are plenty of reasons you may want to practice speaking of resources available to help you on your journey. This article summarizes key points from a video by "English and Chill" on YouTube, I share many of these valuable tips and tools!

1. Online Courses: Free and Paid Options

Online courses are a great starting point for improving your English speaking skills. There are several platforms that offer both free and paid courses tailored to different needs:

For those looking for more personalized instruction, one-on-one platforms like

Amazing Talker

Preply

Cambly

offer lessons with native English speakers as well as foreign speakers that can assist with translations. To book directly with a tutor and no third parties, check out briannamtutor.com/online-tutoring.

2. Utilize Social Media for Language Practice

Social media is an often-overlooked resource for language learning. Platforms like TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Instagram Reels are not just for entertainment—they offer content specifically designed for language learners. These short, engaging videos can provide quick lessons and translations, making it easier to pick up new vocabulary and phrases.

For speaking in particular, social media communities can be invaluable. Facebook groups and platforms like Discord offer spaces where learners can join conversations, participate in voice chats, and practice speaking in a supportive environment. The "English" Discord server is one that I highly recommend because it has various voice channels where you can practice speaking with others at different levels of proficiency. I particularly recommend Discord for people that feel insecure when speaking English due to the anonymity of this platforms

3. Volunteering as a Speaking Practice Tool

Volunteering is an excellent way to practice English in a real-world setting. If you're living in an English-speaking country, volunteering allows you to interact with native speakers, build community, learn new skills, and become more comfortable using English in everyday situations. This can be especially helpful if you are not eligible to work in your country yet

If you're not in an English-speaking country, look for online or remote volunteering opportunities where you can practice your language skills.

Volunteering not only helps you improve your English but also allows you to make a difference in the community, making it a rewarding experience on multiple levels.

4. Leverage AI Tools Like ChatGPT

AI tools like ChatGPT can also be helpful for practicing English speaking skills. While ChatGPT is widely known for its text-based interactions, it can also be used to simulate conversations and practice speaking. I recommended watching their ChatGPT tutorial to learn how to use the tool effectively for language practice.

Using AI to simulate real-world conversations can help you practice your speaking skills without the pressure of talking to a real person. It’s a great way to build confidence before moving on to more interactive speaking practice.

Use what works best for you

There's no one-size-fits-all solution to mastering English speaking.  The key is to find the methods that you enjoy and incorporate them into your daily routine. With consistent practice and the right resources, you'll see significant improvements in your fluency and confidence.
